When I became a mum, I thought I needed absolutely everything in my changing bag. Over time I’ve realised organisation matters far more than quantity.

We have two changing bags; our Egg 2 Changing Bag and our My 1st Years Mini Backpack with Compartment (we personalised ours so I have blocked this out for my son’s privacy!). We bought our Egg when my son was a newborn and it was so spacious and kept everything you need for a newborn and we now use this for longer days out or on a plane. We use our My 1st Years for normal days out and about and this will be my son’s nursery bag as well.
Use Compartments
Packing cubes are my life saver! These cubes are all from Primark and come in so many different colours and designs! My biggest tip is to group similar items together.
I use small pouches for:
- Nappy changes
- Snacks
- First aid
- Spare clothes
- My toiletries / seasonal add ons such as suncream
This means I can grab exactly what I need without emptying the entire bag.

Nappy Change Essentials
I always carry:
- Nappies
- Wipes
- Nappy bags
- Changing mat
- Spare vest and/or full outfit (including socks!)
- Hand sanitiser
Snack Station
My toddler is far happier when snacks are available!
Usually packed:
- Fruit pouch
- Rice cakes
- Oat bar
- Water bottle
The My 1st Year bag has a separate compartment that we use for my son’s snack box and the Egg 2 has an insulated pocket which was great for keeping formula and/or breast milk cool until needed! We use this lunch box from Amazon and it fits perfectly – plus I love the compartments!

Entertainment
A few small items make a huge difference:
- Touch and feel book
- Small toy car
- Pop it
- Colouring activity
We usually take a smaller bag for entertainment that can slot under the buggy.
Final Thoughts
A well-organised changing bag saves time, reduces stress and makes outings feel much more manageable.
